Welcome to Tots Yoga!

We’re so happy to have your family as part of the Yoga Sprouts community.

📕 This guide contains everything you need to know about our Tots Yoga classes, from what to expect when you arrive, to our approach to child development, attendance, wellness, payments and more.

You don’t need to memorize everything! Think of this as your Tots Yoga handbook to refer back to whenever you need it throughout the term.

🌿 Tots Yoga

Movement, music, play & connection for little ones

Age range: Crawlers to approximately age 2 (ish)

As your child’s mobility increases, our Tots Yoga Movement & Development classes encourage and support physical exploration in a positive, fun and active environment.

Our classes include:

•  Yoga poses and movement
•  Songs and rhymes
•  Movement concepts
•  Free exploration
•  Sensory activities
•  Language-rich experiences
•  Social interaction
•  Relaxation and calming activities

Together, these experiences nurture your tot’s fine and gross motor skills, language acquisition, body awareness, confidence and social-emotional development.

Tots Yoga also provides a positive shared routine for young families during a stage of development that can bring plenty of big feelings, boundary testing and change.

We balance energetic movement with relaxation and quiet moments, helping to lay the foundation for a healthy, active lifestyle.

🧠 Our classes are designed for growing brains

You will notice that our Tots classes have a very predictable rhythm.

This is intentional.

Young children take comfort in knowing what comes next. Predictability helps them feel secure, and that sense of security gives them the confidence to participate, experiment and learn.

Our classes intentionally repeat songs, movements, language and routines from week to week and from term to term.

When your tot attends class, they are busy:

Observing → Practicing → Participating → Mastering

And often, the learning continues at home between classes!

Repetition builds learning pathways

During the first few years of life, children’s brains are incredibly busy creating connections.

Learning new skills involves building and strengthening the brain's neural pathways, and repetition is an important part of this process.

By providing repetitive, developmentally appropriate, language-rich, engaging and fun experiences, we are taking advantage of this remarkable period of early childhood development and supporting the foundations for lifelong learning.

In simple terms:

The more they practice, the more confidently they will participate.

So if your tot seems to be watching rather than joining in during the first few weeks, or even months, this is a normal part of development! They are taking in far more than it may appear.

💰 Payment Policies

Payments are due on or before the first class of each new term, and the total due is in your confirmation email.

If you’ve already sent payment, thank you - it has been received (we don't send out individual receipts) !

All payments are in CI dollars.

Payments made on time are greatly appreciated, as Miss Sarah has very little administrative time once her full teaching schedule gets underway.

Need an extension?

Please email Miss Sarah before the payment deadline to see if an extension can be accommodated.

Prefer installments?

If you’d prefer to pay your term fees in two installments, please mention this in your email to Miss Sarah.

🧘 What to Expect at Class

Arriving early is ideal

It can be intimidating for young children to enter a room where a structured activity is already underway, so arriving early or on time is especially helpful for Tots Yoga.  The studio opens 10 minutes before your designated class start time.

When you arrive, you’ll find a plethora of balls scattered across the floor. This gives the tots an opportunity to explore, interact and transition into the studio environment at their own pace.

Five minutes after the official class start time, we’ll clean up the balls and move into the structured portion of class.

But we know that life with a tot doesn’t always go according to plan!

Running late?  Please still come!

We wholeheartedly have a “better late than never” policy for Tots Yoga.

If you’re late, simply enter quietly and join in wherever we are in the class.  If the front door is locked, just ring the bell and we will come let you in.

📍 Finding the Studio

Centre Pointe Studios
Alissta Towers
85 North Sound Road
Cayman Islands

We’re in the same plaza as The Baby Shoppe, at the opposite end of the plaza.

📍 Google Maps:

https://goo.gl/maps/uj52V9hKKMszENMHA

There is plenty of parking in front of the building.

If the front lot is full, additional parking is available behind the building.

Entering the studio

Entry is through the entrance door second furthest to the right of the building.

Shoes can be left on the colourful mat in the lobby.

👜 Personal Belongings

Studio storage is limited, so whenever possible, please leave strollers at home.

Personal belongings, including diaper bags, can be placed in the cubbies in the room behind the studio.

We aim to keep distractions to a minimum for the tots, so we do not keep personal items in the studio.  Something as simple as a colourful bag or container of snacks can quickly grab every tot's interest!

The exception is phones and car keys. There is limited designated space on the high shelf if you’d prefer to leave these items there.

Please note:

All personal belongings brought onto the premises are at the individual’s own risk.

Yoga Sprouts Cayman LLC assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged belongings (though in 13 years, we have never had an issue with this).

👕 What to Wear & Bring

Dress yourself and your tot in comfortable clothing suitable for gentle movement.  No shoes are permitted in the studio, so you may want to wear socks.

Please bring:

Just yourselves!

Please leave toys from home outside the studio.

There is a changing table just outside the bathroom.

If your tot needs a snack, please give it to them before or after class.

Solid food is not permitted in the studio.

We provide:

•  Clean, comfortable floor mats
•  All yoga props
•  All materials needed for class

💛 Every Tot Participates Differently

Every child has their own learning and participation style.

Some tots will:

🌱 Jump right in
🌱 Explore independently
🌱 Sing and move immediately
🌱 Stay close to their grownup
🌱 Watch for several weeks or even months before participating

All of these learning and participation styles are completely okay, and developmentally appropriate.

Some children (and grown-ups for that matter!) need time to become comfortable with a new environment before they feel ready to participate.

Because our classes follow a predictable, repetitive rhythm, children gradually learn what to expect and anticipate. This helps them develop a sense of security and confidence.

And sometimes the learning doesn’t show up until you get home!  We often hear from families that a tot who mostly watches during class suddenly starts singing the songs or doing the movements at home.

Watching is learning, too.

👩‍👧 The Role of Grownups

Tots Yoga is a co-creation between Miss Sarah, the tots and their grownups.

Grownups have two especially important roles:

1. Movement Models

Your tot learns by watching you.

I’ll lead the class, while the grownups participate alongside their tots - moving, stretching, singing and playing.

When your tot looks around and sees the grownups all participating, they begin to understand:

“This is what we do when we come to Tots Yoga.”

Your enthusiastic participation is therefore an essential ingredient of the class.

Don’t worry about doing the movements perfectly!

Your tot doesn’t care if your toes don't actually reach your nose.

They just love moving through class with you.

✌🏽 2. Peacekeepers

Freedom of movement and interaction with other tots is encouraged throughout class.

At the same time, because this is a group activity, each grownup is responsible for keeping a close eye on their own tot at all times, and helping to ensure that interactions remain safe and positive.

At this age, children are still learning how to navigate social interactions.

We want to help avoid interactions involving force that could hurt or frighten another child, including:

•  Pushing
•  Pulling
•  Grabbing
•  Hair pulling
•  Hitting
•  Overenthusiastic physical contact (even hugs can occasionally become a little too enthusiastic!)

If an interaction involving force occurs

Please:

1. Separate your tot from the other child.

2. Quietly check in with the other tot and their grownup.

3. Model empathy toward the child.

4. Tell your tot that hitting, pushing, etc. hurts and isn’t allowed.

5. Redirect your tot back to your place in the circle.

Sometimes these interactions happen quickly.  If the behaviour continues, you may briefly step into the lobby with your tot so that they can begin to connect leaving the studio with the behaviour.

What about saying sorry?

We don’t require tots to apologize.

At this age, children are still developing the ability to understand the meaning behind an apology. A forced “sorry” can become more about getting back to play than developing genuine empathy.

Instead, we focus on:

Safety → Empathy → Connection → Redirection

Our shared goal is to make sure every tot has a positive experience.

📵 Our Screen-Free Studio

Let’s be here now!

All Yoga Sprouts classes and studio time are smartphone and screen free.

This helps us model and encourage:

•  Social connection
•  Imaginative play
•  Presence
•  Interaction
•  Focus

It is also a safety issue.

We need grownups to have their full attention on their tot for the duration of their time in the studio.

If you need to check your phone or wearable device, please step into the lobby with your tot.

If you bring a phone or other device with you:

Please keep it silent and out of sight while in the studio.

Photography & recording

Please do not take photographs, videos or audio recordings during class.  Each term, will will take a group photo and email this to parents.

👨‍👩‍👧 Who Can Attend?

One grownup is permitted in the studio with each tot.

Some weeks there may be room for additional grownups. If you’d like an additional grownup to attend, please ask Miss Sarah in advance. Whenever there is space, we are happy to accommodate this:)

Younger siblings

Younger siblings are welcome to attend in some circumstances, space permitting.  Please check with Miss Sarah before bringing a younger sibling to class.

Older siblings

Older siblings are not normally permitted to attend class.  This especially includes if they are home from school because they are ill or recovering from an illness. An exception may be possible when their school is closed on the day of class.  Please check with Miss Sarah in advance.

Watching from the lobby

We have a viewing window from the lobby into the studio. Additional parents, grandparents, and family members are welcome to watch from the lobby. Please let Miss Sarah know at the start of class if someone will be observing. Family and friends observing from the lobby are asked not to take photographs or make recordings.

🌱 When Is It Time to Graduate?

Tots Yoga is designed for children who are crawling through approximately age 2 (ish).

However, development doesn’t happen according to a calendar!

Some children will be ready to graduate before they reach age 2, while others may continue happily beyond age 2.

The most important question is:

Is your tot still engaged with and benefiting from the class while participating safely alongside our youngest participants?

Sometimes a younger tot develops strong gross motor control and then begins showing less interest in following the class.

You might notice them:

•  Running laps around the circle
•  Doing their own thing more and more
•  Spending more time away from the group

These can all be signs that they’re ready for their next adventure.

If you’re unsure, please ask Miss Sarah.

Sometimes the transition happens in the middle of a term. When this occurs, we’ll help your child “graduate” and offer a prorated refund for remaining classes.

There is no hard-and-fast rule, however. We’ve had children older than age 3 continue happily in Tots Yoga!

Every child is different.

💻 Online Tots Yoga Portal

Currently enrolled Tots families have access to our private online Tots Yoga resources.

This is included in your tuition and is a wonderful way to:

•  Keep your tot’s yoga practice going at home
•  Continue familiar songs and movements between classes
•  Enjoy some extra movement during the week
•  Join in when you can’t make it to class

Online portal

This portal is exclusively for currently enrolled Tots families (it's also long overdue for an overhaul, it was first developed during covid times and it's on my to-do list to update this!)

Please keep the password private and for your family’s personal use.

📅 Attendance Policy

Tots miss classes from time to time.  In fact, it's quite rare for a tot not to miss a few classes each term.

We truly value your commitment to your child’s participation in our program and understand that absences are sometimes unavoidable. Missed naps, illness, appointments, travel, visiting family and busy family schedules are all part of island life with little ones!  We also want to share a little more about our tuition policy.

In an effort to keep our class tuition as affordable as possible for all families, we are unable to offer prorated tuition, discounts, or credits for missed classes. Just like school, our tuition is based on enrollment in the term rather than the number of classes attended.

If you are missing a class, you may:

Transfer your missed class to a friend

If there's a class you can’t attend, you may transfer your class to a friend who can attend in your place.

Please let Miss Sarah know by email info@yogasproutscayman.com or whatsapp (345) 326-9876 in advance whenever possible, and copy your friend into the email.

Make-up classes

Whenever possible, we love to offer make up classes for missed classes. If there is space in another class during the same week, we can accommodate a make-up class.  Please check with Miss Sarah for availability.

We appreciate your understanding and, most importantly, your support in helping your child get the most out of their experience with us.

💛 Wellness & Attendance

It’s no fun missing class.

But it’s even less fun coming to class and picking up an illness - and if Miss Sarah becomes sick, it can mean cancelled classes for everyone!

To help protect our little community, please do not attend class if your tot or attending grownup is experiencing symptoms of illness.

This includes:

•  Temperature of 100°F / 37.8°C or higher
•  Consistent or frequent coughing or sneezing
•  Discoloured or unusually heavy nasal discharge
•  Glassy eyes
•  Diarrhea
•  Vomiting
•  Sore throat
•  Lethargic behaviour
•  Communicable diseases
•  Pink eye / conjunctivitis
•  Influenza
•  Measles
•  Chicken pox
•  Strep throat
•  COVID
•  Head lice
•  Contagious rash or skin infection, including ringworm or HFM

If your child has a chronic condition such as sinusitis or allergies that causes nasal discharge, please let Miss Sarah know.  This information will be kept confidential.

After a fever

Your child should be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to class.

Persistent coughs

Some coughs linger for weeks after an illness has cleared.

If your child has a persistent cough, please consult their physician to confirm that the cough is no longer contagious before returning to class.

Please also let Miss Sarah know by email before class.

If your child has a cough caused by a non-contagious condition such as asthma, please let us know in advance so that we’re aware.

This information will be kept confidential.

During class

If symptoms of illness develop during class and become consistent, we may ask you to leave with your tot to help protect the other participants.

Thank you for helping us keep our community healthy.

🚨 If a Class Is Cancelled

In the rare and unlikely event that Yoga Sprouts needs to cancel a class due to an unforeseen circumstance, we’ll let you know by email.

If time allows, we may also send a text message if we have your phone number on file.

We’ll provide as much notice as possible.

Depending on the timing and circumstances, we’ll offer:

•  A make-up class
•  Class credit toward the following term
•  A refund for the missed class

📋 Liability Waiver

All participants are required to have a signed liability waiver on file.

You only need to complete the waiver once, when your child first starts with Yoga Sprouts.

Online waiver: https://www.yogasproutscayman.com/waivers

Paper copies are also available.

🌸 Re-Enrollment From Term to Term

Currently enrolled families have the opportunity to re-enroll before general registration opens for the next term.

Near the end of each term, you’ll receive an email inviting you to re-enroll.

Please keep an eye on your inbox and reply promptly to make sure your little one’s space is secured for the following term.

💕 Meet Miss Sarah

Yoga Sprouts Cayman was founded by Miss Sarah, who leads all of our classes.

She has more than 25 years of experience working with children, including experience in both on-island traditional and Montessori classroom settings, as well as environmental education programs.

Born and raised in Canada, Sarah has called the Cayman Islands home for the past 20 years.

She holds her PGCE (British Teaching Qualification) in elementary education, and is certified to teach yoga to babies, children, teens and families.

As an avid yoga practitioner since the 90's, she is delighted to share the many benefits of yoga, mindfulness and movement with children and families across Cayman.

Since 2013, thousands of babies, toddlers and children have participated in Miss Sarah’s classes, which combine:

Yoga + mindfulness + body awareness + movement + music + play

💚 Our Philosophy

At Yoga Sprouts, we believe children deserve spaces where they can:

Move freely.
Explore safely.
Connect with others.
Develop confidence.
Learn to recognize and regulate big feelings.
Build healthy bodies and healthy habits.
And, most importantly, have fun.

We aren’t trying to make little yogis perfectly execute yoga poses.

We’re creating positive experiences with movement, connection and mindfulness that children can carry with them as they grow.

🌸 Thank You for Being Part of Our Community

Thank you for taking the time to read through this guide and for trusting Yoga Sprouts with such an important part of your little one’s early years.

If you ever have a question, please ask!

And if you and your tot love Yoga Sprouts, please tell your friends.

Word of mouth is the best form of advertising on our small island, and most Yoga Sprouts families find us because another family shared their experience with them.

We are so grateful for that.

We can’t wait to see you in the studio!

Warmly,

Miss Sarah
